Safe Environment

  • To Our Parishioners, Parents, Catechists and Volunteers:

Our parish sponsor's many programs and activities for children and teens. We, along with the Archdiocese of Detroit, are committed to providing a safe environment for our young people.

This commitment leads us to work for communities of informed adults who model appropriate behavior, are vigilant to the warning signs of abuse and take action to prevent abuse and improve safety. Likewise, we are determined to ensure that our facilities, grounds and procedures promote optimal safety.

St. Mary Queen of Creation parish follows the policies for safe environments of the Archdiocese of Detroit:

All adults who are paid or volunteer personnel (clergy, religious and lay) shall have a criminal history background check; have been provided the Pastoral or Volunteer Code of Conduct before starting work in any capacity and participate in a Protecting God’s Children workshop within 6 months of a staff or volunteer assignment, if the potential exists for contact with children or youth.

Together, we promise to protect, and we pledge to heal.

  • BACKGROUND CHECK

Any adult working with children or teens must obtain and complete a background check authorization form if they have not yet done so at St. Mary Queen of Creation. Forms are available through the link below and at the parish and religious education offices. The information is kept in strictest confidence. No one has access to the completed authorization forms except the pastor or his desgnee. The background checks are run through the Michigan State Police. They only need to be repeated every seven years.

  • CODE OF CONDUCT

Codes of conduct have been published to establish clear and well-publicized standards for ministerial behavior and appropriate boundaries for clergy, church personnel, and volunteers in positions of trust who have regular contact with children and young people.
